PEAT SORB is a revolutionary hydrocarbon absorbent made from premium
Canadian Sphagnum peat moss. The high grade raw material we harvest is
dehydrated through a unique proprietary heat process which gives it unparalleled
absorption capabilities.
Peat moss is made up of small capillaries whose cells are full of water. When the
peat is processed and the water is removed from these cells, the peat becomes
“activated”. Once “activated”, the peat has a high capacity to absorb hydrocarbons
into void cells which once contained water. PEAT SORB absorbs oil or other
hydrocarbons with a wicking or hydraulic action that draws the hydrocarbon into
the cells and encapsulates the oil. The encapsulation of hydrocarbons takes place
immediately on contact. The absorption capacity is the result of a very large
surface area created within the activated peat.
